Regarded as the unification of Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu, the two branches of Hinduism (Shaivism and Vaishnavism) come together in the form of Lord Ayyappa. Revered as Dharma Shasta, he is also regarded as Lord Buddha. It is said that the one who is devoted to him earns lifetimes of boons. Replicated in black stone (Krishna Shila), crafted by hand and hand colored, by temple artisans of Karnataka, sculpting idols through generations down 400 years.
