Goddess Lakshmi is the epitome of good luck and good fortune. The word Lakshmi is derived from the Sanskrit word Laksya, meaning aim or goal and is the goddess of wealth and prosperity, both material and spiritual. She is as much a favorite of women for bestowing beauty, purity and fertility onto those who revere her, in fullness. Shri Mahalakshmi (AmbaBai) of Kolhapur is one of the Shakti Peethas as per the puranas and is associated with Shakti, the goddess of power.The temple dates back in time and was perhaps first built in circa 700 AD. This Shakti Peetha is of special religious significance, being one of the six places where it is believed that one can either obtain salvation from desires or have them fulfilled. Replicated in white marble, crafted by hand and hand colored, by temple artisans from Rajasthan, it has been blessed at her very feet in her sacred shrine in Kolhapur.
